Travels to Italy (Rome)

Rome is much more than exciting, magic, eternal, and fascinating, it is a world of make believe with its proud inhabitants, who live life to its’ fullest. Architecture from the Roman Empire to the 21st century can be seen throughout the city. Rome offers sites and events for all ages and for all interests. You will see and visit as much as is possible. The historic sites, including the Vatican Museum (an independent state in its own right) to the architecture of the EUR center will be on your agenda. Taste and enjoy it all...what a wonderful experience!

February 19

Departure from New York for Rome, the eternal city.

February 20

Arrival in Rome. Your driver will take you to your comfortable hotel, which is very centrally located. Remainder of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Rome.

February 21

This morning you will visit the impressive Vatican Museum. Here you find art and treasures of priceless value. The ceiling of the Sistine chapel is world renown and is certainly an incredibly ingenious piece of work by Michelangelo. However do not under estimate the other treasures you will find in this magnificent museum. Your local guide will explain.
Lunch will be on your own.

Afternoon will be at leisure for some independent sightseeing.

February 22

A morning visit with a local guide awaits you. See the local Forum, the Coliseum, and the Pantheon.

The afternoon is at leisure for you to enjoy with your friends and teachers. There will still be time to visit, amongst others, the Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain, and the Piazza Navona.

Dinner and overnight in Rome.

February 23

Many interesting sites are waiting for you. Early morning departure for Florence. Stop in Assisi en route.

Assisi is the birthplace of St Francis, who is the patron Saint of Italy. The Basilica holds his tomb as well as magnificent frescoes that describe the life of this modest Saint. A local father will take you around this marvelous building before you continue your journey of discoveries to Florence.

February 24

First activity of the day is a sightseeing tour with your local guide. She will walk with you and explain about architecture, art and history. The Academia, the Uffizi gallery, the Signoria Square and not to forget the Baptistery with its "Gates of Paradise (according to Michelangelo) are all included in this morning’s unforgettable tour.

This afternoon there will be at leisure for independent shopping and sightseeing.

Dinner and overnight in Florence.

February 25

There will be time this morning for some shopping. Your tour manager will send you in the right direction. There are lovely shops everywhere as well as markets. Be careful where you buy as prices and quality vary....

Then in the afternoon, you will leave Florence. Your coach will take you in comfort towards Venice. The ride will take between 3 and 4 hours. The drive through the Apennine Mountains is impressive and you will enjoy the sites you will pass by as you travel in a Northerly direction. Overnight will be in a lovely and typical Italian town. Vicenza is not far from Venice. Here the architect Palladio lived and worked. He was very influential in the 18th century. Vicenza is ideally located for your various sightseeing tours of interest.

February 26

A full day in Venice is just what you want today! Venice is unique. You will soon see what we mean.

Here, streets are waterways, buses are boats, taxis are speedboats and sightseeing coaches are gondolas. Are you ready? Lets go to Venice! Your local guide, who you will meet on the St. Marc’s Square, will show you the Doges Palace, the St. Marc’s Basilica and will tell you tales about the turbulent history of this former wealthy republic of Venice. Dinner will be taken in Venice.

Overnight stay in Vicenza

February 27

Vicenza is ideally located for visits to many impressive cities. We will take you to charming Verona. This is such a lovely town and the home of Romeo and Juliet. You will see the balcony where Juliet stood when Romeo declared his love to her. This story was immortalized by Shakespeare and every year in the summer, performances of this famous love story take place here. Equally important is the summer opera season. The performances of which take place in the impressive Roman amphitheater. Enjoy time for some last minute shopping or independent discoveries before you return to your hotel in Vicenza.

February 28

Unfortunately a wonderful week has come to an end. You will have learned a lot and expanded your horizons and musical experiences. Departure from Venice airport on your flight back to the USA.
